Gary Hume

Blue Nun is an exquisite work. Each silk screen is hand cut printed onto an exceptionally thick paper in layers of high gloss, making the blue colour sing and the surface feel three dimensional.
Hume (born 1962) attended Goldsmith's College in London. He first came to prominence with his Door paintings in the 1990s. Hume represented Britain at the Venice Biennial in 1999. In 2001 he was elected to the Royal Academy.  He also represented Britain at the Bienal de São Paulo in 1996, the same year he was nominated for the Turner Prize. Solo shows have included Whitechapel Art Gallery, London, Kestnergesellschaft, Hannover, Kunsthaus Bregenz, Austria and Modern Art Oxford. In 2013, Tate Britain presented a focused survey spanning Hume’s career. Hume currently lives and works in London and Accord, New York.
