'Hollyhock Seeds' 2012

Inspired by local hollyhock seeds gathered from Arnold Circus, this playful image is rich in subtle variations, a merging of colour and texture. This translates beautifully through the process of silk screen, and the use of a textured paper, results in this gem of a work. Published in an edition of 125The work will be available for viewing and purchasing at Leila's Shop, 15-17 Calvert Avenue, London E2, during shop hours. ‘Hollyhock Seeds’ Fundraising Project. During the summer of 2012 a forest of majestic hollyhocks thrived in the gardens of Arnold Circus. They were the inspiration for inviting internationally acclaimed and local artist Rachel Whiteread,  to create the ‘Hollyhock Seeds’ print.

- LLANSTEFFAN STAIRWAY

This is a photograph of a concrete staircase on Llansteffan Beach in South Wales in 2012. Rachel has worked with staircases for many years, taking photographs, moulding and casting, culminating in large sculptural forms.
Whiteread is one of Britain’s leading
contemporary sculptors. Born in London in 1963, she studied at Brighton & the Slade School of Fine Art. Whiteread was the first woman to win the Turner Prize in 1993. The same year she made House 1993–1994, a life-sized cast of the interior of a condemned terraced house in London’s East End, “House,”  Over the last decade she has developed a significant international reputation, creating major public works in both Europe and the United States. Her winning proposal for the Holocaust memorial at the Judenplatz in Vienna was one of the most prestigious sculptural commissions in Europe in the 1990s. She represented the UK at the 1997 Venice Biennale. Whiteread’s  has exhibited extensively including a recent major solo show  at Tate Britain, London in 2017.
Previous shows include; Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, Serpentine Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Turbine Hall, Tate Modern, all in London.
